Farmers flock to county to compete in British National Ploughing Championships

Ploughing enthusiasts will be sowing the seeds of victory at the latest agricultural contest to be held in Lincolnshire.
Farmers and ploughmen from across the country will flock to Grange de Lings, near Lincoln, in October to compete in the 2010 British National Ploughing Championships.
More than 15,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, and watch as competitors battle it out for the chance to represent their country in the World Ploughing Championships in Sweden next year.

The two-day event will feature fierce competition between the regional champions, with ploughmen in the conventional and reversible classes parading to their plots to do battle.
There will also be competitions held by enthusiasts of vintage tractors from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Ken Chappell, executive director of the Society of Ploughmen, said it was high time the championships returned to Lincolnshire.
"We move around the country with the national championships each year," he explained.
"The world championships were held at the Lincolnshire Showground ten years ago and it's about time it came back.
"Dependent on the weather, we hope to have 15,000 visitors over the two days. The main attraction for spectators is the horse ploughing championships, but there's also the vintage classes and the modern styles."

The British National Ploughing Championships were last held in Lincolnshire in 2000 alongside the World Ploughing Championship.
The championships will be held on October 9 and 10.
