Walking
If you enjoy walking, there are lots of local footpath networks. Snipedales hosts some beautiful woodland walks, and is only 8 miles from the cottages. There is also n
earby a link to the Viking Way, the course of which takes you almost entirely through thinly populated countryside, quiet villages and small market towns. The Viking Way crosses an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, over fens, wolds and heath land on a meandering journey across Lincolnshire and Rutland. The walk is a total of 147 miles long but not everyone feels up to walking the full distance, many just walk short stretches at their own pace.

Cycling
There are many cycle routes that take you along pleasant, tranquil, un-spoilt country lanes, ranging from 9.5 miles to 25 miles. The routes embrace a variety of scenery, from rolling farmland and ancient woodlands, to the wild beauty of the fens.

Battle of Britain
In World War Two, the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa was seconded by the RAF and became the Officers Mess for the famous 617 squadron 'The Dambuster Squadron' that flew many of the now famous missions from nearby RAF Scampton. A memorial to commemorate the Squadrons achievements and losses has been erected in the Royal Square in the centre of Woodhall Spa (8 miles). The Battle of Britain Memorial flight is stationed at RAF Coningsby (12 miles), where you can see the last flying Lancaster in Great Britain. The flight is also complemented with five flying Spitfires, a Hurricane and Dakota.

At East Kirkby (10 miles) is the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, The visitor centre and museum is also the home of the local Archaeology Aviation Recovery Group, they display many of the finds recovered from organized digs. Also on display is "Just Jane" a Lancaster that, although not permitted to fly, from time to time, has taxiing displays (both daytime and evenings) for the benefit of the public, these events are well publicised in advance. Golf
Woodhall Spa is the National Golf Centre, and headquarters of the English Golf Union, its two famous championship golf courses are the Hotchkin and the Bracken (8 miles).

Motor Sport
Cadwell Park Motor Racing Circuit, near Louth (motorbikes and cars) (8 miles) .

Cinemas
Woodhall Spa, The Kinema in the Woods, this is a rear projection Cinema, it has two auditoriums, on selected dates the original Compton organ provides entertainment before showing the main feature (8 miles)

Theatres

Churches
Churches give a distinctive sense of place and provide reasons to visit rural communities. There are a number of church trails in Lincolnshire poacher country.

Market Towns
Louth, (Church, antiques, Hubbards hills, Georgian architecture) (10 miles). Alford, (windmill, Manor House Museum) (18 miles). Horncastle an old Roman town which won the Millers Guide award for the best Antiques Centre, with numerous shops to visit. (4 miles). Lincoln visit the Cathedral and Castle, walk the cobbled streets of the old sector with its quaint shops, restaurants and bars (20 miles). Tattershall (10 miles) Tattershall castle, and the Tattershall Leisure Centre with all manners of outdoor water sports.

Historic Buildings
Gunby Hall, National Trust (24 miles). Tattershall castle, National Trust (10 miles). Thornton Abby, English Heritage (22 miles). Gainsborough Old Hall (40 miles).

Beaches
(25 -30 miles) fun by the seaside, in the quiet of Anderby Creek, Sandilands, Sutton on Sea, Skegness, Mablethorpe or Cleethorpes 30 miles with entertainment for all tastes. Why not visit the Fantasy Island Complex at Ingoldmells, advertised as the largest leisure and theme park in the UK.
